  • What is physical therapy?

Physical therapy helps to restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities of patients suffering from injuries or diseases. It restores, maintains, and promotes fitness and health. Physical therapists treat accident victims and individuals with disabling conditions such as lower back pain, arthritis, heart disease, and fractures.

  • How do I get started with physical therapy?

Under New Jersey law, you can see a physical therapist without a prescription from your doctor. Automobile accidents and workers’ compensation cases require a prescription. Call our office if you have any questions about insurance coverage so we can assist you.

  • What should I wear to my appointment and how long should I plan on being at my appointment?

Comfortable clothing. You should also allow up to an hour for most visits.

  • What does a physical therapist do?

Physical therapists examine patients’ medical histories and then test and measure patients’ strength, range of motion, balance and coordination, posture, muscle performance, motor function, and respiration. They also assess a patient’s ability to be independent and reintegrate into the community or workplace after an injury or illness. Physical therapists also develop treatment plans describing a treatment strategy, its purpose, and the anticipated outcome. Treatment includes exercise for patients who have been immobilized and lack flexibility, endurance, or strength. Physical therapists also encourage patients to use their muscles to increase their flexibility and range of motion before advancing to other exercises that improve endurance, strength, balance, and coordination. The goal is to improve how an individual functions.
